Oranges on Chinese Scarf, Oil on Prepared Paper, 3" Matting, Museum Glass*, Aluminum Frame (16 x 22" overall)
This is one of my favorite still life pieces. I was looking at Matisse a lot during this time. This was a very inspired piece....I remember waking up and thinking of my neighbor at the time who had a lovely collection of scarfs. This blue on in particular was one I always admired. She was a creative herself, so I knew she would't mind my calling her that morning and saying, "I feel like doing a still life today.....can I borrow that blue scarf with the Chinese writing on it??" She came over for coffee, I arranged some oranges on top of the scarf in my dining room, and barely made a sketch, just painted. That was a very good day!! I hope you enjoy this piece......to learn more about my process, check out my blog here.
